Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera

A charming little village of whitewashed cottages with so much to offer

Santa Gertrudis is a small town located in the Ibizan countryside with a special charm. Its whitewashed houses and typical Mediterranean landscape captivate all those who visit it.

A stroll through its streets centred around the church, or a visit to the local antique and craft shops are two good ways to escape from the hustle and bustle of the Ibizan coast.

Peaceful and cosmopolitan atmosphere

Despite being a small town, Santa Gertrudis has a great personality. You'll be surprised by its bohemian and cosmopolitan atmosphere, which can be enjoyed both in summer and winter. A large part of the population lives scattered in the surrounding farmland, where they grow crops and breed sheep and pigs. It is well worth taking the time to sample the locally produced cured meats and cheeses.

The most striking building is its church, built in the 18th century and featuring the largest belfry on Ibiza, as well as a wooden altarpiece and a sculpture representing the first bishop of Ibiza.

Since the 1970s, Santa Gertrudis has also been a meeting point for hippies, artists and all kinds of artisans who have found a real haven here. Nowadays, despite its small size, the narrow streets of this town are full of decoration and craft shops, sophisticated boutiques, as well as a wide variety of bars and restaurants where you can enjoy the rich and varied cuisine of the island. Treat yourself to a relaxing dinner in the best company!

Things to do in and around Santa Gertrudis

Apart from taking a leisurely stroll through the streets of the town, it's well worth visiting the surrounding area of Santa Gertrudis, where you can go hiking or cycle touring.

Pou de Gatzara, an old well that is believed to date from the 17th century, is located near the town. Every year on the 25th of July, a day of traditional dances from Ibiza used to be held there. Not to be missed nowadays is the last Saturday in June, when a show of traditional dances organised by the Colla de Ball Pagès de Santa Gertrudis is held.

If you want to enjoy a few days of rest and relaxation in the island's countryside, come to Can Marquet.
